The house of evils…
You won’t believe it and yet it is a true story… A real real estate horror story, that of playwright Karen Hines and her lovely new house… riddled with vices. Come in, come in, welcome to her home, even if it’s not a pretty sight… Follow her as she descovers –with humour – misfortune after misfortune under the planks and behind the bricks of her new home. Absurd, clownish, yet very much the truth. Crawlspace takes on the deplorable and irrevocable record of Toronto’s real estate industry: a cruel and crazy battlefield. A true study on the human condition, that highlight the importance of the rattan balls that decorate the tables and corners of houses for sale.
A human comedy, Crawlspace echoes the stress experienced by first-time home buyers, the social pressure they face, and the ruthless legal system that surrounds them. Winner of the Writers’ Guild of Alberta Literary Award, a finalist for the Playwrights Guild of Canada Award, and a five-time Dora Mavor Moore Award nominee, the original English-language play has been sold out across Canada.
Translated by Mishka Lavigne and starring Karine Ricard, artistic director of the Théâtre français de Toronto, the French translation loses none of its bite. Make way for chaos!
